The Hoffmanns have been growing grapes and making fantastic wines for many years without the fanfare, bells or whistles of most wineries half as good. Peter and Anthea Hoffmann purchased their property over 30 years ago and set about turning it into their vineyard dream. Through many years of hard work and ingenuity, their dreams have become a reality.
The beautiful vineyard (over 30 years old), cottage, restaurant and cellar door make this spot a popular destination with tourists from all over. They are known mainly for their Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their Cabernet Sauvignon in particular, is an old and low yielding clone known as the “Reynell” clone, it consistently produces wines of exceptional depth, expression and intensity.
In 2006 they decided to expand their business to include a restaurant which became an instant hit. They believed in the importance of consuming wine in the context of food. “Somehow the wine tastes better at its source, add regional food at its best & you’re in heaven”.
Peter speaks with a smile in his eyes and a slight Germanic lilt in his voice, happy to see people taking the time to come to his cellar door. He and wife Anthea are definitely a great team, spreading their time between the busy cellar door, restaurant and vineyard. There is something very peaceful about the place, with its rolling hills covered in vineyards and beautiful vine tangled pergola. I can see why people like to stay and eat, or just sit around and soak up the atmosphere.
Like many successful boutique producers they have a loyal mailing list, export list and cellar door cliental. Despite the numerous reviews and awards, they still manage to keep humble about their success. It has taken many years of hard work and they deserve every bit they get.
