Past Wine Offerings

What is the selection criteria we use to find such fantastic wines?
Firstly, our wine club experts select a region that we believe is making exceptional strides into the international wine scene.  This is achieved by: 

  1.  Wading through piles of trade magazines, articles, blogs and journals.  We find out which regions are doing disproportionately well in international shows and tastings.
  2. We taste wines from all over the world in trade tastings and international seminars.
  3. We talk to other experts in the field and listen to their personal opinions on the subject.
  4. A region must provide value! We purchase wines using Canadian dollars, therefore the strength of our dollar has a direct impact on the wines we can buy.  If a 95 point wine can be purchased for $50 a bottle, instead of $150 a bottle, then that is the one we will purchase.  The value must flow to the member.
  5. WE LISTEN TO OUR MEMBERS! After every shipment, our members are encouraged to provide us with feedback on wines they liked or disliked.  Members are also asked to fill out surveys indicating where they would like to see us visit, or which regions we should revisit.

When we arrive in a region we taste hundreds of wines from dozens of wineries.  These wines are all rated and their scores recorded.  Our Canadian wine club experts only select wines that achieve over 90+points out of 100 in our blind tastings.

We aim to select the best styles that a region has to offer.  For example, some regions are stronger in red wines than white wines, therefore our selections would reflect these strengths.  However, everyone has different taste buds, so we always aim to purchase varying styles to accommodate each of our wine club Canada membership levels.

Ultimately, Hemispheres Wine Guild wants to expose our members to wines that they cannot buy in Canada at present.  Our selection process is rigorous and unforgiving.  As a national wine club, we have the economies of scale that allow us to purchase the best wines in the world, deliver them and provide the best value wine experience in Canada.
