
This family run, modern vineyard lies deep in the Orozco zone of the cool climate Casablanca Valley. It is a unique site, surrounded by dense forests and designed with careful attention to varietal requirements. The winery is named after a famous 17th century Chilean woman, Catrala who was said to be elegant, impulsive and mysterious. The Rodriguez family, led by Felipe, his wife Alessandra and brother Juan Pablo run this beautiful and elegant facility. The wines are skillfully made by Anamaria Pacheco, who has a wonderful ability to allow expression of the vineyard without dominating the style.
The 70 Hectare property is planted to Chardonnay (small berried Mendoza clone), Sauvignon Blanc (Clone 1), Pinot Noir (Davis Selection) and Merlot. The Sauvignon Blanc is racy yet complex, made after multiple picks through the vineyard. While the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay show excellent personality and expression of the site without oak dominance. The Merlot is quite tight and herbal, and particularly vibrant in warmer years.This site has quite a flat aspect and is surrounded by rolling hills and natural vegetation. The vineyardare irrigated carefully and due to the lack of slope and frost can sometimes require management. This particular area is relatively close to the Pacific Ocean and it’s cold Humbolt currents, therefore is receives cool sea breezes which moderate the temperatures significantly. This is a high class operation, where attention to detail and wine quality mean everything.« Back
